Color matching skills of powder coatings

As an important part of colored powder coatings, pigments mainly play the role of covering, decorating and protecting the coating. According to the different structure design of the coated workpiece, the colored powder coating can show the style and cultural heritage of the workpiece, give people a sense of beauty, and have different degrees of influence on the UV resistance, weather resistance, water resistance, alkali resistance, acid resistance and other properties of the film. At present, the color matching of powder coating manufacturers is generally manual color matching and computer color matching, and manual color matching is usually the main way. Therefore, some color matching skills are summarized.

Color matching and its method

Color has three main properties, namely hue, degree and purity, or saturation, which can be used to accurately determine the color. If the hue, brightness and purity of two colors are the same, the colors are exactly the same; if the three parameters are slightly different. The color is different. All colors can be divided into two categories, namely achromatic and color. White and all neutral grays are achromatic. The difference between achromatic class is brightness, that is, the amount of light reflected. The rest of the colors are color except Xiaoyan. When objects of the same hue are illuminated by white light of different brightness, the colors appear different. The difference is not in hue, but in brightness. The colors of a certain tone can be divided into strong and weak colors. From strong to weak, they can be regarded as the same color. If they are diluted with different numbers of achromatic colors, colors or neutral gray or even colors, the purity or saturation of the series of colors formed will be different. The color with little difference from neutral gray is called weak saturation, and the color with little or no fading is called saturated.

As far as color matching is concerned, subtractive color matching is generally used in the production of coatings. In the process of getting new color pigments by mixing several pigments, each pigment in the mixture will subtract a certain wavelength range of light and a certain amount of light energy from the white light shining on the mixed pigment. If the wavelength of visible light is slightly different, the color will be different, and the human eye will feel different about them.

Red, yellow and blue are called three primary colors, which are the basis of forming various colors. Such as yellow and blue into green, red and blue into purple, red and yellow into orange, and orange, green, purple also known as ask color. If you mix intermediate colors with intermediate colors, or mix primary colors, intermediate colors, and then intermediate colors, you can mix out a very rich color. Fig. I is the schematic diagram of subtractive color matching. The two pigments with opposite centers belong to complementary colors. The pigment mixed with complementary colors in proper proportion can not get white, but actually get dark gray, which is due to insufficient light energy reflected.

Many pigments are listed around the circle of the subtractive color matching diagram in Fig. 1. Mixing two pigments that are not complementary colors will get a color between the two pigments. The corresponding mixed color can be found on the shorter arc connecting the two pigments. If the two pigments are connected in a straight line, the closer the line is to the center of the circle, the darker the color is. When the color is prepared according to the color board or color card provided by the user, the following steps can be adopted.
